There was an bad and embarassing incident today in Beijing Olympics in Taekwondo event, when Cuban Taekwondo player Angel Valodia Matos kicked the referee in the head. Cuban player was playing for a Bronze Medal when this incident happened.
Both Matos and his coach were banned for the behavior on the mat. One Olympic official said that this behavior from the Cuban's was in "strong violation of the spirit of taekwondo and the Olympic Games".
Now the effect of this incident will be that both the player and the coach will have a permanent exclusion for lifetime of all WTF-promoted championships - WTF stands for World Taekwondo Federation.
The match was being played for the Bronze Medal and the opponent was Kazakhstan's Arman Chilmanov and this was in the men's heavyweight.
After a heated exchange on the mat between players, coaches and the referees, Matos struck the referee in the head with a high kick. Matos also kicked another official.
Matos was promptly disqualified and escorted from the arena and was stripped of all the records - crowd cheered by hearing to this announcement.
